Our food systems are broken on so many levels : personal, local, national and global
- the control of all aspects of conventional farming by global corporations that are solely focused on shareholder dividends and high profits for highly paid officers
- the loss of sovereignity of our seed sources
- the lack of support for local abbatoirs, we have lost so many in Scotland
- the distance that society is now from where food comes from, what it is, its power for our health, and how damaging production systems are.
- how few people grow anything in the last 50 years having been told they do not need to, that it is aspirational to have artificial gardens
- how national governments are supporting low welfare options like salmon farming that supports the export ££ but doesn’t feed our community and destroys the local marine ecology
- the waste we have of food – post sale is 20% .. pre sale is so much higher, and it is not even being composted back to soil.
- the dependence on processed food that is more about corporate profit than good food health.
- Processed food is so carb laden where it is completely unnecessary – a piece of chicken does not require a coating of grains – and doing so takes a nutrient rich food into an unhealthy product.
- If we have a nutrient rich diet cooked from scratch, with simple food from land that has healthy soils then we will supply the micro nutrients we need in our body that stops us being hungry all the time .. carbs causes these spikes in hunger, and processed foods from depleted soils mean we are significantly deprived of essential trace elements.
- an economy where we now have more and more food banks desperately needed in super rich countries is nothing but shameful.
